Ask Us Anything! UK-CIC researchers taking part in Reddit AMA

24th May 2021
Join us on Reddit r/IAmA on Wednesday 26 May, 15:00 BST, and ask UK-CIC researchers anything

AMA Title: "We are scientists studying how COVID-19 affects your immune system! We're part of the UK Coronavirus Immunology Consortium (UK-CIC), a UK-wide collaborative research project. Ask us anything!"

Date/Time: Wednesday 26 May 2021, 15:00 - 17:00 BST

UK-CIC researchers were pleased to take part in a Reddit AMA. Three researchers took questions from the public on COVID-19 and the immune system during a two-hour session. Joining us for the AMA were:

  • Dr Ane Ogbe, Postdoctoral Scientist at the University of Oxford. Ane is investigating the role of T cells when we are exposed to SARS-CoV-2, including how they can protect us from infection.
  • Dr Leo Swadling, Research Fellow at University College London. Leo’s research tries to understand why some people can be exposed to SARS-CoV-2 but not become infected, and asks whether immune memory plays a role.
  • Dr Ryan Thwaites, Research Associate at Imperial College London. Ryan studies how the immune system contributes to the severity of COVID-19.

An AMA, or "Ask Me Anything", is a Q&A session hosted on the social platform Reddit. We invited everyone to join us online and ask the researchers anything they liked about the ways SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, affects the immune system.

The AMA has now finished, but it is still available to view here.
