Professor Gallimore obtained a DPhil in Professor Andrew McMichael’s lab in Oxford in 1995, where she studied cytotoxic T cell responses to simian immunodeficiency virus. Following this, she was a Wellcome Trust funded post-doctoral researcher in Professor Rolf Zinkernagel’s lab in Zurich, where, using Lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus as a model system, she investigated correlates of protective antiviral immunity. Subsequently, with fellowships from the MRC and the Wellcome Trust and more recently funds from Cancer Research UK, her lab at Cardiff University, is focused on understanding how the immune system is regulated and how this affects immune responses to infection and cancer.
